Colossians 3:22-25 Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.
Okay so this is going to be tough. Even for me. What I want to write about today is our lives in the workplace.
First things first, especially if you are male, know that God wants you to work and provide for your family. You are the head of the household, act like one.
Next, know that this passage even though it says slaves, it is referring to employees bceause in the U.S. at least slaves no longer exist.
What Paul is telling these people is that if you are a Christian employee you are to obey your employer. 1 Peter 2:18 takes it even further and tells us to obey them even if they are harsh employers. Why though? Because as we have learned throughout our 1st Peter study on the Crosswalk podcast, our good conduct in Christ should lead them to Salvation. Paul goes on to make a key point when working. He says, “Don’t obey them just to be eye-pleasers or work only when they are watching, but rather with true sincerity of the heart and reverence to the Lord.” What he’s telling us is, “Look don’t just work hard when they are watching, but work hard all the time because GOD is watching!!” Then he tells us to do it all our hearts, as if we are working directly for God rather than our employers!
I’ll be completely honest with you and tell you that God convicted me while writing this article this morning. Christians always work hard for God!!
