Romans 8:18, 23-25, 28-30: 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
You know what my favorite part of being a Christian is? The day when I will be able to see my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face! This is called Glorification! Glorification refers to the point when we finally see Jesus and we are made to be just like Him. It is the final step in Sanctification! Jesus promised us that we would one day be glorified, and that’s what Paul is speaking about here in this passage!
I love how he begins this teaching with talking about our current sufferings. We face so much in just the short amount of our lifetimes! Even for a preacher, (might I add especially for a preacher), life gets SO hard! We face various trials and temptations, and we struggle with the battle of sin, but Paul says “You know what, all that stuff means nothing to the the glory that will be revealed to us!!” Isn’t that wonderful! He also tells us that we groan inwardly, meaning that we grieve over our remaining sinfulness, and wait eagerly for our adoption at His Return. We, as new Christians, should now have the desire to leave this sinful world and be with Christ where all is COMPLETELY PERFECT! No more sin, no more trials, no more temptations!
So, this glorious day is something that we should long for! It should be our hope that we wait for patiently. It is a promise!! New Christian, one day you will be glorified!!!
